Our Work... Our Roof Quality... It's in the Details

April 28, 2011Posted by Jay

From small details like pre-painted drip edge, so you don’t have to paint it later, to our standard policy of using an extra layer of waterproofing underlayment, or how we exceed the code for Dade-County nailing requirements, JW Roofing is proud to show our high quality roofing work.  JW Roofing has skilled craftsman and woodworking experts to handle high-end custom woodwork. JW Roofing uses the very best roofing materials on all our roof installs. We also have two State Certified General Contractors on our staff which enables us to handle structural issues should the need arise.  Our team takes pride in the work we do.  Our customers are proud of having chosen JW Roofing, and you will be too.

Two Layers of Underlayment

Miami-Dade County, which has one of the strictest roofing codes in the world, states that for shingle roofs, a contractor can use one layer of #30 underlayment.  Our contractor, who is certified in wind mitigations, has made a decision, based on what he saw after hurricane Wilma, to use a second layer of #30 underlayment as the JW Roofing standard. These are just a few of the differences we happy include in our quality new roof installs.

“After the storm, I saw many roofs that lost shingles, but the underlayment held.  In most cases the 4” lap that one layer of #30 provides was not sufficient to keep wind driven rain from causing leaks.  However, almost all homes that lost shingles with two layers of underlayment experienced fewer leaks or none at all.  I witnessed that the additional overlap that two layers of #30 provided sufficient protection to keep most wind driven rain out. “

Our contractor has lobbied the top officials in the building department to try to get this into the next code revision to protect more homes.

Stuart also stated: “A second layer of #30 is one of the most cost effective things a Miami homeowner can do to protect their home at the time they re-roof.”  For years, JW Roofing offered a second layer of #30 as an upgrade.  We now include it, standard, to protect the homes and families of those who trust JW Roofing to install their roof.
