Clay Tile Roofing

Clay roof tiles are attractive, very long lasting and economical. They are machine-made and provide a very clean and uniform style. Clay tiles do not fade, but there are some natural occurrences like moss which can change their appearance. Clay roof tiles come in a large variety of styles, colors and blends. Popular styles, especially on Miami Roofs, are: Spanish-S, Barcelona, and many variations of flat tile are seen throughout South Florida. Colors of clay roof styles range from a light tan, and the popular terra cotta, to the brilliant fired colors of handmade barrel tiles. There are many clay tile roofs around the world that are over 100 years old. The drawback to clay tiles is that they are easier to break than some concrete tiles. Because a clay tile roof can last so long, the installation of the roofing underlayment is especially important. Our contractors, here at JW Roofing, have been asked to reroof other roofers’ jobs in which the tile looked brand new, but because of shoddy work on the underlayment, the roofs had dozens of leaks. In these situations, we re-roof the home with our strong SBS-modified underlayment, and the homeowner rests assured that they have a quality roof that will protect their home for decades to come.

It is important to note that for tile roofing, the tile does not provide the water protection. Most tiles are porous, and water seeps through them. The important part of the roof is the unseen part called the underlayment. Tiles protect the underlayment from the sun and the underlayment protects your home from moisture. Quality installs and great material for the underlayment is what separates the great contractors like JW Roofing, from the rest. At JW Roofing, we are proud of the work we do – the work you can see and the work you can’t. That is why we post pictures of our work and our roof underlayment installs.
